Our Standards & Compliance Framework
Halal Rizq Certification International conducts all its audits and certifications in strict accordance with the OIC/SMIIC-1 standard — the internationally recognised General Requirements for Halal Food, developed by the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This standard is accepted across all 57 OIC member states, making HRCI certification a powerful passport for global Halal market access.
What OIC/SMIIC-1 Covers
- Halal Food Requirements: Defines the fundamental requirements that food products must satisfy to be considered Halal under Islamic Shariah law, covering all categories from raw ingredients to finished consumer products.
- Ingredient Permissibility: Provides detailed guidance on permissible and prohibited ingredients, including additives, processing aids, flavourings, emulsifiers, and all other substances used in food production.
- Slaughter & Animal Welfare: Specifies the conditions under which animals may be slaughtered for Halal meat, ensuring compliance with Islamic rites and ethical standards throughout the entire process.
- Production & Hygiene: Sets out requirements for Halal food production facilities, including cleanliness, segregation from Haram substances, storage, packaging, and transportation conditions.
- Labelling & Traceability: Establishes standards for how Halal products must be labelled and how supply chains must be documented to ensure full traceability from source to consumer.
- Scope & Recognition: Recognised across all 57 OIC member states — covering the Middle East, South & Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Africa — making it the most universally accepted single Halal standard in the world.
